Post by: art b on September 08, 2010, 03:23:43 PM
in our quest to produce some true scrumpy cider we had a couple of hours killing fruit.....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

some one has lent me an orchard....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif)

the home made press.. [it has since, been adapted for the next session],

lightly smash some apples...(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/cool.gif)

load the press

apply  pressure... with two scissor jacks....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/beavisnbutthead.gif)

the extracted juice....

just 5 gallons...

this was a trial session , the 5 gallons have had yeast added and its busy fermenting....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

we also have a tree full of plums, and two pear trees that are loaded with fruit.....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/cool.gif) (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/cool.gif)

Ha great!

I'm not a cider drinker, but Brother's Toffee Apple cider is nice! Stick some toffee in there too (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/stir.gif)

Question. How come that colour is different from the 'not-from-consentrate' apple juice I drank this morning, yet those are obviously fresh? (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/huh.gif)

Looking Good Mr B (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif) you're right, its proper cloudy isn't it (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/shame.gif)

the juice is cloudy as it has a fair bit of pulp in it, tastes gr8....(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif)
it also oxidizes in contact with the air,,as apples do,

but will clear a lot when fermented, so im told,

it is much like a freshly squeezed orange juice i suppose,(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)

id imagine the stuff in cartons which ive used for makin cider is filtered and treated to make it clearer...(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/confused.gif)

This may help you find some if you can't - although most proper off-licences and pubs should do it now, it's been out all summer.
