My Z28 is currently running a silly "ALZ" Irish number plate and all I want is a standard age-related one.
How's best to go about this ?
I can buy one (assuming it's an "A-Reg") for around £250 but can't the DVLA just issue me a new number ?
I've tried to call the DVLA - with no success - as there's nothing about this online - merely stuff relating to private plates etc . . .
Also - how do I know for sure what reg it should be . . . it says "Declared manufactured in 1983" but is this an "X" or "A" ? - If I need to buy a reg I'll clearly need to be sure !! (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/tongue.gif)

The answer will be in your VIN as to exactly what year it is.
From what I have heard, you may have problems changing it yourself (apologies if incorrect), someone on another forum has just attempted this and has had to get the club he is a member of to do it for him (something about something on headed paper ;))
Hmm the easiest way is probably to just buy a plate for it - the only thing is that the plate cannot be newer than the year of manufacture of the car...
Also yeah wouldn't surprise me if you need some form of 'official' letter confirming the year of manufacture of the vehicle...
Other than that, i think you'd have to contact DVLA to see if they can swop the plate over....

contact someone like speedy reg, offering to sell your plate. When a buyer is found (they may even buy the plate from you themselves), they transfer your car onto an age related plate for you at the buyers expense.
As the car is already registered you wont need any confirmation of age, it will go back onto a Y or A plate.

THat may well be the best idea, although retention is max 3 years so you gorra sell it in that time, otherwise i think the cert expires and then gets passed back to DVLA?
you can re apply for retention, you just have to pay again.. if you allow the certificate to expire the number is lost
Retention is £105 I think, it lasts for about 12 months, I know its £155 for 3 years?

Clearly I don't see number plates the same way everybody else does . . . . "CHV" is fairly common among CHeVy owners.
The "A" is because it has to be an "A" and the "13" because the choices are "13", "18" and "19" - that's it - (I wanted two figures).

On the otherhand I also struggle to see how my 5.7-litre V8 Camaro could be deemed "Chavvy", or how I, myself, could be deemed a "Chav".

the hood's 'glass . . . . And that was a '83-only special option.
I fitted the cowl as the hood no longer cleared the motor . . . I did intend using a steel hood to cut up but that's another story . . .
