Title: Dryness Alert !
Post by: F Body on February 01, 2014, 09:17:39 PM
After Friday nights heavy rain Saturday was drying out nicely, however it was forecast to rain again tonight (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/sad.gif) However the current weather forecast now says dry through the night and a sunny Sunday morning 6c with moderate winds (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif)
If it drys out enough the Camaro will get her first run of 2014, don't waste this chance because the next month is still forecast as very wet (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/can.gif)

Don't think I haven't already taken advantage of the dry weather today for a good blast out in the car. I did come up against a good 6" deep ford which I decided to turn around rather than go through.
Anyway, tomorrow I'm looking at giving her a good clean before taking her into the paint shop on Monday for the nose respray...
She really needs to go to an owner who will actually use it, rather than me just driving for it's own exercise (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif)

Well what a pleasant change in the weather this weekend after the wettest January on record (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif) Always good to get some petrol back into the veins and the dogs enjoyed the sunshine too (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/cool.gif)

What a great day it was for a drive!
Ended up getting up pretty early and giving it a good wash down and wax. Also gave me a chance to really see if my work had fixed the leak... kinda. Much better than before, but still coming in down the door car.

The 460le in the Z28 is a four speed ?

From LS1 Tech :
"if you cruise at 60 mph right around 2000 rpms give or take 50 rpms or so, you have the 3:23's. If you have incredibly low rpms at this speed, then you have 2:73's. "
NB: Can't check my VIN details on my new laptop (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/wink.gif)

Hmmm! Just consulted my RPO code decoder again. I swear when I last looked up 'GU4' it classed it as 2.73 gears, yet, just now... 3.08 (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/chiny.gif)

Dragged the car into work today to hand over the keys to the paint guys at the end of the road.
Nothing sweeter than rolling down the windows after just doing the weather strip and seeing all the rain get swept off. Call me sad but it's nice to have made something better on this car.

Your oil pressure is high?!
The 400 is in KPa which equals about 60psi. Would've said that was fairly healthy and I like to see it up there if I'm honest! It drops down to about 200 KPa after a good half out at idle, but anything else and its up there. Thats using 5-30W Semi as I couldn't find Mineral anywhere at a reasonable price.

Does anyone else's Camero run that high? (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)

Yes mine is at least 3/4 up the gauge when cold and about half way when warm.

I was going to ask you how your plate is mounted. I really want to avoid mounting mine on the new grill. As yet I've driven past several coppers and had no issues, but even my super friendly MoT tester might have an issue with it... (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/chiny.gif)

On a serious note, I have seen this fitted to a 3rd gen before (can't find the vid) as there's TONS of room for this to retract up into the nose of the car.
I would totally fit one too on one condition, that it dropped down when you turned the ignition on and retracted only when the ignition was turned off. with no override possible. That way the 5-0 don't get suspicious of stuff I haven't been doing but they would think I had...

which is mounted to the standard IROC grill, you'd need to drill holes.
Edit: it has 3 'legs' moulded onto the back that you can't see in their pic, these are screwed into the grill.

Ahh, i have that bracket from my other grill, just wasn't sure if yours had a stand off from the grill or not.
I'm pretty reluctant to put it back on as it appears that bracket has spent most of its life rubbing the paint off the lower lip, which its just gone in today to have resprayed.

There should be enough room for it not to rub, mine is close but I have never had that problem. Probable was put on wrong in the factory.

Mine is always pinging the needle when I'm on the throttle or its off idle. Only when idling and warm does it drop.
I'm not sure about Maros exactly, which is why I was asking if anyone elses runs that high, but usually, the pressure gauge should be:
Quoting: F Body
Yes mine is at least 3/4 up the gauge when cold and about half way when warm.
As I am sure you know, when the oil is cold, it is more viscous, so there is a higher pressure to move it all around. However, as the engine and the oil warm up, the viscosity reduces and the flow increases which in-turn decreases the pressure.
It could be a faulty gauge or sensor before you panic, but I can't imagine that is working correctly. (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/mechanic2.gif)

i saw a plate similar last year on a z350 that went into a slot ,in the grill and came out on a remote, the guy said it could not operate on the move due to the wind speed,

Really don't see the point as it would be illegal anyway (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/chiny.gif)
The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001
Fixing of front registration plates:
REG 6.
—(1) This regulation applies to vehicles, other than works trucks, road rollers and agricultural machines,
(2) Except as provided in paragraph (5), a registration plate must be fixed on the front of the vehicle in the manner required by paragraph (3).
(3) This paragraph requires the plate to be fixed—
(a) vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable,
(b) in such a position that in normal daylight the characters of the registration mark are easily distinguishable from every part of a relevant area having the diagonal length specified in paragraph (4).
5) In the case of a motor cycle or a motor tricycle which does not have a body of a type which is characteristic of the body of a four-wheeled vehicle—
NB : Been doing a lot of number plate research recently (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/wink.gif)

Is there not some ruling about if it's not practical or there isn't a location for one to be fitted?

It does not state that it needs to be PERMANENTLY fixed, it just states 'fixed'
So, by definition, that 350z would be legal. The fact it is connected to a motor and mechanism that allows it to hide is irrelevant as it IS 'fixed' in the upright position.

Yes it's legal right up to the point you retract it whilst it's on the public highway and if your not going to do that what's the point ?
Remember a couple of years ago when people were fitting K band garage door openers to front of their cars to open their remote garage doors allegedly, but they could also jam radar speed guns ?
A couple of drivers were convicted despite the Police having no actual evidence that they were used for jamming (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif)
