Well guys what are you're opinions... I'm impressed (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
yup not bad at all
would be handy if we could increase the avatar file size
Jamie,
Is there the facility for Signatures with this software?
yup mate if you go to the minibb.net site then downloads you can see all the cool hacks
aah I see
My list would be:
Who's online
Members List
Moving Replies could be useful
User's Monthly Stats
Signatures
Custom Rankings
Also the "Quotes" solutions which says makes them more "decorative", its a bit hard to see whats quoted as it is at the moment.
My 2c
Well that would be most of the list mate (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/biglol.gif)
It is a few things but all in good time not like i'm asking for them overnight (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif) good additions though
Ryan
definatly need the members online one though as it would be much easier to see whos here.
yeah thats of the to-do list I reckon (also happens to be mentioned first on my list...(http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/grin.gif))
Give me any suggestions you want (maybe in a new topic) Anything you want, i.e move this here, change that etc. I will try and work through them.
looks pretty damned good to me! (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
oooooooh Mr Admin can we have the polls addin please (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/cool.gif)
It's coming - next item will be user rankings though - I know you want to know your post counts.
Is the avatar file size fixed or can it be increased?
It can be increased - are you talking pic size i.e. 60x60 to 75x75 or file size i.e 100K to 200K
Picture pixel size is better because then it limits the actual on-screen size of the picture otherwise if someone has a huge pic it will distort the forum pages. 75x75 I think is enough what do you guys reckon?
Ryan
both would be nice (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)
but file size would be better for resolution of real small images
additional: file size is only a problem if you're using animated images for avatars, can you set 2 boundaries? i.e. 75x75 pixel & 200kb?
pixel size is already 65x100 so 100x200 might be better
Jamie, have neen looking through the minibb forum and it seems that smilies are user definable, perhaps when you have some time we could get some smilies more MKB orientated if you get my drift. some of these are a little tame (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif)
Yes, another thing already on the list, but I thought we'd get more important stuff done first.
I've got a HUGE bank of smileys... very cool Personally I prefer these "normal" sized smileys rather than the bigger ones.

Yeah I know its a crap e-mail address (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/sad.gif) but just fubar was taken & I was having a braindead moment...
would change it but its so much hassle!
Ryan
Nice touch there Admin ' the naughty zone' pmsl will this be passworded in the future when we have younger members?
Yes, once I have worked out how to add it - going to check the manual now
Jamie,
Can you try & figure out why all those smileys came up all big? I assume its "thumbnailed" them even though they are smaller than the set thumbnail size...
No worries I sorted it... if you don't want the images to be thumbnailed remove the 's' from the [imgs] tags at each end of the link... (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
?? so imgs thumbnails it, img doesn't ?? is that right?
?? so imgs thumbnails it, img doesn't ?? is that right?
That is correct m8, clever innit (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/cool.gif)
so for things like smileys or small piccies use the img tags, but if you're posting lots of pics. or pics of projects, meets etc use the imgs tags to show a gallery of thumbnails

Jamie,
Is there a way to highlight active topics since you were last online like the AACI forum does? helps to see whats new

I was hoping this question wasn't going to be asked too soon.
At the moment no - and the makers don't see the point in it (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)
However there is a guy who has done his own hack and I have asked him to send me the details.
Failing that, it's another longer term project for me to work out how to do it.
Thats cool, all in good time
if we carry on at this rate we will end up with a pro forum like 'vb' or 'snitz'
Note, I think the forum clock is 3 mins slow... poting times are appearing 3 mins behind my PC clock which is network controlled on these work machines.
Might not be though
Is there anyway the webpage can auto refresh or do i need to keep clicking the refresh/f5 in order to see if any new posts have been added?
Think you're stuck with refresh for now.
Will be something that I can look into later.
how about changing the(http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/img/forum_icons/default.gif) icons to these (http://www.krispykreme.com/images/smallglazes.jpg)
how about changing the MBB icons to these
MMMMmmmm. Donuts.
Dude thats an awesome Idea (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/grin.gif) saw that on the other forums & wondered if we could do that
lemme edit out some of the surrounding white 1st tho...
actually i have been reading the manual so i know it can be done (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/lol.gif)
Gotta give me some different flavours too though - different one for each sub-forum.
no problem just go to the krispykreme website they are all there (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/grin.gif)

Was thinking more for a locked topic mate
Ok, i'll try to do Both... I have another idea too but that'll have to wait untill i'm at home later.
I'll work on the padlocked for a locked thread too copying base images from KK website now...
Was thinking more for a locked topic mate
So was I.
Just calculated an average post rate of 12.6 posts per hour (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/biglol.gif)
Locked topic - Here ?
I can't imagine why . . . . We're not inviting Toby are we ???

Hey ryan,
Can you set an image to a transparant backgound on paintchop? that way the background colour wont matter
Can you set an image to a transparant backgound on paintchop? that way the background colour wont matter
You can but I don't think that anyother program except Paintshop Pro recognises it as transparent... i'll investigate when I get home
Can you set an image to a transparant backgound on paintchop? that way the background colour wont matter
Ok, I asked a friend who knows about these things & yes you can, they must be saved as.png files & then they can be displayed in internet explorer and it maintains the transparency levels.
I made one to test it but there's Hitch though... I can't host .png files on my Photobucket account so when i've created them all i'll e-mail them over to Jamie

When i get the apartment i will be creating an FTP site for use by people i know. This should help out when we are trying to do stuff like this in the future. Also it will let people share music and video files

You should be able to save it as a Gif, they recognise transparent areas.
I see we have user labels now (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif) will it show the post number aswell? you know everyone wants to see a number (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/lol.gif)
Just noticed the preview button as well (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif) (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif) (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif) (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
i cant see a postcount. do we have one?
not as yet mate we have a title under your moderator it says newbie, not sure but think this changes after 120 posts or something
*edit *
just had a look at the code on the minibb site might be 300 posts before you get to the next level
if you click on your name at the top of the page you can see your postcount & number of threads posted in too
Post boundaries can be reset - it is 300 at the moment - I will keep you in suspense as to what the cat's are.
Will look into addind post count to it.

Would the file upload tool for this forum be of use for this? Everyone should be able to use that with ease (not all of us know how to use ftp) for uploading and downloading. It does cost, but $30 isn't a lot.

Shouldnt need it mate as you can do FTP with internet explorer and if you just want to download add the FTP site as a network place on XP
Jamie,
I sent you the little donut pics last night (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/cool.gif)
Yep, I got your email.
Development time is limited to 1-2 hours per night max at the moment. Will get to them though.
I was figuring on the different flavoured ones for each sub-forum, but not sure exactly what to use for the topic icons yet (haven't seen or worked out what options there currently are to replace.)
Thats cool (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/cool.gif)
My same thoughts for the flavoured ones (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/smirk.gif) there's a few to chose from there (16 I think) so plenty of choice I do think the Orig Glazed one should be added as a smiley too tho :kk: (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
I have looked at the forum icons and we have the following to replace:
Topic empty(i.e. no replies) - empty page
Topic default (i.e. some replies) - full page
'Hot' Topic (i.e. 2+ pages) - full page with +
Locked Topic - full page with circle/slash
Sticky - Page with !
Locked Sticky - Page with ! and circle/slash
Also bear in mind that we might want some variations on each of these to be used to highlight unread posts.
Topic empty(i.e. no replies) - empty page - Blank Square
Topic default (i.e. some replies) - full page - Donut Icon
'Hot' Topic (i.e. 2+ pages) - full page with + - Steaming Donut Icon or KK 'Hot' sign (not yet made)
Locked Topic - full page with circle/slash Locked donut icon
Sticky - Page with ! dunno, extra sticky donut?
Locked Sticky - Page with ! and circle/slash dunno
The variations could be interesting... I could make some with a KK sign style Red Neon Outline??
I can see the copywrite infringement lawsuit now . . . . (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/lol.gif)

Its ok, by the time its shrunk down to an appropriate size you won't be able to read the text anyway
Its ok, by the time its shrunk down to an appropriate size you won't be able to read the text anyway
I was going to say the same thing - and by then - what's the point?
Nice idea though, just don't think it will work.
Its ok, by the time its shrunk down to an appropriate size you won't be able to read the text anyway
Actually you should be able to keep the resoloution tight and still drop the physical size making it viewable
you can't drop the size without decreasing the Pixels... thats what will make it illegible
Ryan
you can't drop the size without decreasing the Pixels... thats what will make it illegible
on photoshop you can reduce the canvas size without changing the pixel resolution.
I will try tonight how small does it need to be?
the same size as this:
isn't what you're talking about the same as cropping off the excess white round the edges which is what I did with the KK donut piccies?
isn't what you're talking about the same as cropping off the excess white round the edges which is what I did with the KK donut piccies?
On photoshop you can reduce the whole image including white areas by changing the canvas size, not by croping
Ok after messing with that image for an hour i admit i was wrong, even making the resoloution 1200 dpi the image lost it.
However whilst messing around i had another cunning idea for this image, what if we edit it into a MKB logo?
What do you think ryan do able?
as in
Hot
MK & Beds
Now

Now
That could work, just thinking the colours go well with the flash site we have been messing with
nice, sounds good to me!
Jamie,
is there a plugin for this that can allow Text allignment? i.e. Left, center & right allignment

Here is a skin i was messing around with earlier
http://www.members.aol.com/gr4eme/pictures/Need to click MKBSKIN.html to view
Try now
It's all messed up. No graphics
I think the css is missing.
You need to take a screenshot and post that - the html is trying to build using aaci-beds files - which it can't find.
Hmm it works on the desktop file (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)
It's probably downloaded the relevant files locally.
BTW - take a look at the bottom of here :
http://www.minibb.net/download.htmlThere are a load of pre-completed templates for download, and a few icons. I haven't looked at any of them yet, but there may be some suitable stuff in there.
I like the idea on this one of having an image in the background... must be something either made Black & white or sepia tho, so that text is always legible

FUBARI like the idea on this one of having an image in the background... must be something either made Black & white or sepia tho, so that text is always legible

whay does it keep adding /forum before my url
hey what do you know you dont need to add the [url] tags just type the website address and it works (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
Put http:// at the begining of your link.
Or what Ryan said.
Ah, I see it at last.
I like the textured background, but the bar colour isn't to my taste. It doesn't look wrong though.
Jamie
just copied this code from a website that has user selectable skins, not sure if it will translate to ours .

This forum is making me hungry... (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/tongue.gif)
I have a sudden craving for donuts... (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/shame.gif)
Are we going to have a hot topic version of the donuts for each section? perhaps an animated donut with a flame or a chunk missing.
There is no icon for individual topics yet, just for which forum its in.
I believe this was also on my development list...
the section donuts look good, just thought an animated one for a active thread in a subsection would be kinda cool

just found this in the minibb forum, its for making a hot topic
There's already a 'hot topic' option, currently it adds a + to the icon. The hack you show adds another level - 'very hot'
Don't see much point in that really. Most of us just use the recent replies list rather than going into the sub-forums to see the topic icons.
ok just figured that, problem is im real lazy and mainly click the front page links to view a post. Is there any way to make a thread on the front page apear as hot topic?
I see what you are saying - I will take a look-see.
Theory don't look too difficult, we'll have to see what it does in practice (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)
do we need to take cover from the crash ? (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/lol.gif)
http://www.minibb.net/forums/2_3200_0.htmlis this the same poll feature we have installed?
Doesn't seem to make sense. I have posted a reply to hopefully get some more info.
sorry mate have been a little bored here at work so was trauling through the minibb forum (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/lol.gif)
Tilt
not sure where it's gone, but the email I sent with the updated text files hasn't reached home.
Guess it will have to wait until tomorrow anyway

Did you ever find it mate?
Nope, nor the one I tried this morning - DL plays some funny tricks sometimes.
Have sent it via webmail to be sure - it's definitely there this time.
Ok, I've just noticed a glitch with the forum,
The number of times a thread has been viewed doesn't increase if you click on the numbered subsequent pages... if you click on the actual thread title it increases by one. click on 2, 3, 4 or whetever & nothing happens...

Jamie is there a way we can have Left / Centre / Right Text justification as buttons with the Bold itallic etc etc ?
I seem to remembers something being mentioned on the support forums about this. I will take a look.
Cheers m8, Pictures especially I like to centre on the page so it would be cool to have.
Any chance we can turn up the font size of the little page numbers for the threads? it only need to go up 1 point but they are a bit hard to click on atm being so small.

Do you mean in the 'recent topic' lists?
yeah the little 1 2 3 4 5 6 's for subsequent pages in a thread, they are a bit small
just a quick one, is it possable so that the last post is the first you see whenyou select a thread ie it automaticaly goes to the bottom of the page?

or even better than that the last unread post, which knowing this place will be about 3 pages from the end! (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/rofls.gif)
It will be possible, but there's a lot of work involved working out the last unread post to do first. When I get that far, I will be included such a link.

(http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/actcool.gif) Nice to know these things are possible, all in good time Jamie (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/OrigGlazed.gif) (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/OrigGlazed.gif)
miniBB are working on something that does this, but I'm not sure I like it.
Go to their forums and register. Log in and then go to the minBBox link. Have a play, see what you think.

I'll have to do that later Jamie as I'm working this evening, will definately take a look though
Whats going on with the MKB logo? would be nice to have it so that we can start work on the new flash site aswell as revamp this forum. Also we still need to add the gigling part to philo's quote
The flash site has a light purple background, any one have problems with this as it looks pretty hot would also work well on the forum me thinks instead of the white
My one is still pending. It's the next thing for me to do when I get some more dedicated PC time at home (as opposed to the 10 minutes here and there where I'm doing noddy upgrades).
Thing is, I have no idea when that will be.
I've not had time to have a go either, Graeme, can you e-mail me / Jamie a screen print image of the website so that I can get the colouring for the background. actual size if poss that way sizing can be judged too.
Ryan
Good thinking. I was planning my logo based on a black or white background (T-shirts lol), and hadn't considered different colours.
No need to email me it (unless it's changed from the original) as I have the flash template at home already.

Any better?
well it'll blend in that way, either that or make the background transparent so that it'll just overlay whatever's there, actually thats probably a better idea, but mean's i'll have to do all of it in Photoshop which i'm still learning.
Ryan
I thought PSP dealt with transparencies?
not that i've found, i tried to save the gifs with transparant backgrounds & it didn't work, AFAIK you can only maintain transparancies if you save it in the .psp file which nothing else can read
I know it looks shite at the moment, but it's still an improvement on the miniBB logo.
I will try and clean it up when I have some more time.
Just noticed the mkb logo at the top of the screen looking gooood (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
Might have been there ages but I only just noticed it (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/confused.gif)
holy ho's!
liking the new logo! (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/up.gif)
Jamie,
Logo looks ok, the color of the flash site is #990000
I have swapped the background coloer on the forum with that color and it seems to work ok. Do you know if it is possible to use a image behind the tables of the forum as all i have been able to do is change the color?
The flash site uses a padded purple image that looks cool and i think could look quite nice behind the forum sections
It would give some consitancy to the stle of the whole forum, what do you think?
Is the current logo OK then?
I thought it looked a bit rough (by account of it being shrunk from 800x600 to 150x100 and saved as Gif). I was going to try and tidy it up, but you guys seem to like the 'rough' look.

Do you mean like that fancy template we found? I haven't looked into how that works yet.
TBH I'm not keen on the pixellated look.
I have an idea (similar to your's) so I'm going to have a play with photoshop & make up a Neon sign, its just finding the time to do it, which I'm sure you can sympathise with (http://www.aaci-beds.co.uk/forum/smileys/grin.gif):

Thats the one mate, the background color of that template looks nice against the logo, as you say it just needs tidying up, can you email me the original file and i will have a look at it with photshop
The original file is tidy, it's just lost it when shrinking and saving as gif. It would look better with a fixed background color.
Graeme did you e-mail me a piccy of the website? I just need to use it for colour references.

Hopefully I can make something using vectors, that way resizing means losing no quality
2 problems with the background pic:
The template isn't downloading.
and,
I found this on the forums:
As about CSS - remember those users, who are not using Internet Explorer or latest Mozilla. Extended CSS will not work in these browsers. Thus, CSS can be displayed DIFFERENTLY in each browser (specially look at Opera).
