Sort out the leads, dizzy cap & plugs and then you can check the timing.
Seems to have a lot of homemade aftermarket parts ?

All i gorra do now is remember to take a HT lead in and get them matched up!

The red melted thingy is a wastegate solenoid. GM #1997152. You will find some improved performance once you replace that, and it'll protect from overboost.
Those are definitely some baaaaaad trucks. (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/beavisnbutthead.gif)

Nicley identified dwain, am guessing a common issue? you got a price on that part as well
(http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/bump.gif) for ian

Hmm interesting wonder if that be causing some of the issues i have..
Cheers fer that going off to hunt one down now!!
Ian if you cant find it i can PM dwain on PZ and get him to find a price and the part seeing as its probably in the stores where he works
$25.00 US. Pretty cheap, and yes, pretty common. Sold a few back in the late 80s early 90s when the Grand Nationals were around. When you start having boost issues it's time for a new one.
In your case though, I'd say it's well past minor issues. (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/rofls.gif)
Dwain,
Here is a link to ians project. The car is a jap import and has been moded a little by the previouse owner. From memory its only 2 wheel drive now as well

Might be worth giving Geoff or Sue at Astoria (sp) a ring to see how much he can get it for.... Remember, MKB get 15% discount on common parts, and 10% on special order parts....

yeah he is pretty hardcore, he posted this little story yesterday
Quoting: Goatman
A couple of ladys came in to pick up a car from service. One lady was going to drive her friends car back home. Next to the space where they parked is a 4' tall 4" diameter bright red pole. Two of them. People hit them all the time backing out of the space. Usually in trucks, SUVs, or vans, but this was a (here's the part MA will like) Camaro. She backed out and hit the pole, freaked out, and instead of hitting the brake, planted her foot on the floor. Ripping half the fender and door skin off (fiberglass/plastic), flying backwards into an employee's car almost hitting her friend's Vette that they just picked up, btw, the Vette lady onws both cars. The wheel was still turned to to the right, so she came back accross and hit one of our vendor's personal trucks, then finally came to a stop on a big electrical transformer box. Like a 5x5x5 1/4" thick steel box that got shoved back about 2 feet. Literally toree the left side off the car. Definitely exciting.

Ian, if you would like I can check on shipping costs ect. I know Graeme has an on going deal with Andy Mitchell, I can get one to him or whatever. More than happy to help. And thanks for the good words. (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/up.gif)

ok further update re the melted thing...
The PN / info re the wastegate thing is right, but it aint that bit that is melted...
If you look at this pic
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6037.JPG you can see the red bit that is the melted one, on the left is the solenoid....not melted
Different angle, same area
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6038.JPGAnother pic of melted thing
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6039.JPGbasically it has 2 wires coming out of it one goes to here
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6040.JPG (rear of alternato) the other vanishes down underneath the car somewhere...
Any idea what it is
Looks like it's bolted on to the turbo mounting bracket , no wonder it melted !
Is it (was it) some sort of temperature sender (http://mkb-cc.yanksrule.co.uk//Forum/smileys/dontknow.gif)
I would think dwain would be right as he has probably seen many when they arnt melted

ok cheers m8y!!
The second picture is a much better shot than the first one. I've been searching for the past couple of hours trying to find this thing. I can't even find the bracket it's attached to. Is there a wire/cable attached to it? Ground connection, maybe? Sorry I missed it the first time.

No problems mate!
Yeah there are 2 wires coming from it, 1 goes to rear of alternator, other one vanishs somewhere down under the truck....still gorra try and find where this wires ends up!!!!
OK spent some time this afternoon tracing said red wire from melted thing....
First thing i did was take a closer look at melted red thing, found the red stuff seemed to be heatshrink or similar, so ripped it off and found this underneath, looks to be some form of sensor of summat...
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6049.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6050.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>OK then traced red wire.....it went pass the remote oil pump
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6041.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>and ends up at a metal box, mounted on the chasis rail further along from oil pump
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6042.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>Inside said metal box is 2 relays and what i think is some form of actuator?

[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6046.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>This pic shows top of unit, and has a small inlet, non threaded
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6047.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>the box looks like this when attached to the chasis - the bottom of the "actuator" is located where the hole is.....
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6048.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>Following the other wires BACK from this box, there are 2 "spurs" off the 4 wires that go into the remote oil pump and then they end up at a switch unit inside (see below)
[img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6051.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6052.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6053.JPG\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=150>Im kinda guessing its all linked together (oil pump, box of tricks, switch etc) but it doesn't seem to work - any ideas for where to start look and how i might find what the sensor is and where i can get a new one (as it could be faulty?)
Right well after fiddlng with wires n stuff, i now have the remote oil pump working - it makes a hell of a racket but brings the oil pressure up to about 50-60psi.
After chatting to dave & ray over the w/end we reckon that cos it all tied together (the switch in the cab feeds the remote pump and metal box and various wires go between all of them) there must have been some form of turbo timer at some point, and that working in conjunction with the remote oil pump and we reckon the actuator is the "activation" bit for the remote oil pump and it looks like been removed but left the oil pump and wiring etc in and that still works..i.e. the turbo timer send a pulse to the actuator which turned pump on atomatically (but you also could manually operate uit?)
Would this sound feasable????

You sure it's not a thermostat so that the remote pump provides extra oil when the turbo starts to get very hot ?
ERm, pass dont think so as it only seems to operate when button / switch pressed.....will have to see what it like when i drive it round a bit.......
