Four killed in US drag car crash.

Four people have died and 15 have been injured after a drag racing car spun out of control and hit a crowd of spectators in Tennessee, officials say.

The accident happened at the Cars for Kids charity event in Selmer, 130 km (80 miles) east of Memphis.



A witness, Scott Henley, told the Associated Press that, after burning off its tyres, the vehicle swerved into a pole and then spun into the crowd

You can't make motorsport completely safe and most of the US raceways are pretty safe, seems like it was an unlucky fluke accident

Looks the car was a doing a Demo run on a normal highway with people sat in folding picnic chairs by the roadside

3 more have died from their injuries which brings the death toll to 7.

It's bloody sad that they died from a freak "accident" like this.

Makes one wonder if the burnout was scripted and went awry or if it were actually driver error.

My thoughts go out to all those involved and their families.

As RK says - without barriers and appropriate measures it is just waiting to happen.......specially with high powered drag cars such as this was...
